Your Kind of Beautiful

by Brittany on January 13, 2014

I hope you all had a marvelous weekend!

Mine went by way too fast.  I had 2 small procedures done on Friday, so I lounged around all weekend.

Don’t worry, everything went fine.  It was just uncomfortable.

Like I told you all Friday, I had girl’s night with my sweet friend Hannah.  All weekend I have thought about this phrase she has hanging in her apartment.

2014 01 09 23 54 06

I’ve kind of been beating myself up lately, because I have a million things on my plate right now.

I find that I keep comparing myself to other people.  For example, if she can do this, this, and this, then I should be able to as well.

I know this is a problem that all of us deal with or have dealt with in some for or fashion.

We all tend to break out this invisible yard stick and measure ourselves by it.

Sadly, we look at magazines and social media for what our worth is.

We stress over our weight, height, hair, and even the number of twitter followers we have.

Yet, none of that tells us our worth.

Starting today, Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful.

What if we did that?

Imagine how differently our children would grow up.

They wouldn’t see mommy or her friends call themselves fat or ugly.  She wouldn’t hear women talk bad about other women behind their back.

They wouldn’t know that you have to work a full time job, have 2 kids that are gorgeous and smart, have a husband that just stepped out of GQ, workout at the gym 5 days a week, be the PTO president, and make homemade meals each night.

Sounds exhausting right?

What if we decided that we would break the mold of what society says is beautiful, and just rocked who we are?

Let’s all decide to Be Our Own Kind of Beautiful and forget all the other silly things that are holding us back from our full potential!

That my friends would make for a Marvelous Monday!

So friends, what is your kind of beautiful??  Best part is… you get to decide!

How was your weekend?

What is Marvelous in Your Monday?

a beautiful message for a Monday! Hope you have a great day.

Linz @ Itz Linz January 13, 2014 at 8:10 am

LOVE this! such positivity from such an amazing woman!

Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat January 13, 2014 at 8:35 am

Such an amazing message! I’ve definitely compared myself to others or was over critical of myself, but you’re so right…we can be our own kind of beautiful. Thanks for the reminder!

Hayley@healthyregards January 13, 2014 at 8:35 am

I love this on a monday morning. Thank you for the inspiration as we head into another week. We can apply this to who we are in general, just “being yourself” and “doing you” is so hard sometimes!
My kind of beautiful is: athlete, dorky, slightly awkward, sometimes shy, lots of freckles, extremely sarcastic, always happy (:

Brittany January 14, 2014 at 9:58 pm

Your kind of beautiful sounds AMAZING!

Danica @ It's Progression January 13, 2014 at 8:38 am

I adore this post, Brittany. We certainly all struggle with this, especially in a society that is constantly full of images of “perfection” and judgment from all angles…thank you for the reminder – we’re all unique and should be proud of who we are!

Katie @ Talk Less, Say More January 13, 2014 at 8:42 am

You are such a beautiful person, friend! Just be your own best version of yourself, not anyone else!

Amanda @ .running with spoons. January 13, 2014 at 9:02 am

A perfect way to start my Monday — thank you, lovely lady <3

I'm a firm believer in the idea that confidence is the most attractive thing about another person. No matter how someone looks or acts, they're absolutely beautiful as long as they confidently rock what they've got.

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List January 13, 2014 at 9:09 am

i embraced this a couple of years ago and never looked back! such empowerment!

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:09 pm

you are such an inspiration to me friend! xoxo

Kim January 13, 2014 at 9:38 am

I love this – lately I’ve been struggling with several issues and it all comes down to feeling like I’m not “keeping up.” I’m going to apply this and remember that it’s OK to wear workout clothes all the time and not be able to make every single person 100% happy

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:10 pm

Yes! You are an amazing woman girl! Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing… just keep up with you and your family!

Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy January 13, 2014 at 10:26 am

This is such a great message!

Bonnie January 13, 2014 at 11:05 am

Great words to read as I start my week! Thanks so much for sharing that phrase… And you nailed it – the best part is that we get to define it! Or rather, it’s been defined for us by God. Can you believe how much HE loves US? That should be where my value comes from, not seeing the results of last night’s Indian food indulgence on the scale. ;) Thanks, friend!

Brittany January 14, 2014 at 9:58 pm

I would so rather God define me than allow myself or anyone else do it!! ps… Indian food is SO worth it!

Caitlin January 13, 2014 at 11:35 am

great monday message! i am not feeling so beautiful myself today after a weekend of what feels like many indulgences. i keep comparing myself to others or to an older version of myself (which is the worst to do). thanks for a reminder to be my own beautiful!

Purelytwins January 13, 2014 at 1:09 pm

yes!!! love love love!!! such a powerful message!! it is hard not to always compare, we catch ourselves doing it. such a great reminder that we are all beautiful in our own way! hugs

Maria January 13, 2014 at 2:02 pm

This is my mantra for the day! For me, it has less to do with my looks (which I’ve accepted a long time ago – these darn legs of mine will never be long and slender), but more with my attitude. I’ve had some tough times at work the past few weeks and I’ve decided that a happy, optimistic person is much more beautiful than one who is down in the dumps in the office. Fake it until ya make it!

Thank you for a beautiful, honest post!

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:11 pm

I’m with you on the legs… I’m so sorry you have had a rough past few weeks at work. Email me! Let’s chat…

Amanda @runtothefinish January 13, 2014 at 2:09 pm

ahhhhh great words of wisdom!!! I actually needed to read that today as well, less because i”m comparing and more because I’ve been trying to make some decisions and they feel hard…but if I am being true to me they are all much easier!

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:12 pm

I’m so glad it was helpful!! Praying for you and your decisions friend! xoxo

Caitlyn@BareandBalanced January 13, 2014 at 2:43 pm

Lately, I have been on the road of gaining weight due to health reasons and have collected about… 20 pounds. Which is hard. I am constantly comparing myself to others and… it is just so hard. I am trying to learn to find myself beautiful, no matter my weight, or what-have-you.
Let me know if you ever need to talk girl <3 You're a beaut.

Brittany January 14, 2014 at 9:57 pm

Thanks Caitlyn! I have gained weight too over the past year, and it is hard. However, I’m actually starting to like and feel better in this body … crazy right??

Heather @ Better With Veggies January 13, 2014 at 3:35 pm

Oh I love this!! I’m really trying to figure out how to get it all done recently and realizing that (once again) I’m overscheduled. Argh! :) I guess it’s okay that I don’t have it all together!!

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:12 pm

I feel ya! I tend to over schedule myself more often than not!

elise January 13, 2014 at 9:33 pm

so beautifully written! It’s such a refreshing idea, and it’s always important to be reminded of this…especially when we’re hit from every angle out in the world with all the negative, unrealistic ideas of what we should be.

Arman @ thebigmansworld January 13, 2014 at 11:21 pm

What a great message amidst all these traps of comparison- we can mould the definition to suit us and what WE consider to be beauty or self worth. Cheers!

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:14 pm

Yes! I’m all about rocking my weirdness. :)

Kate @KateMovingForward January 13, 2014 at 11:43 pm

Great thought! I think not being afraid of who you really are is incredibly beautiful. It’s taken me a long time to get there, but I’m finally starting to not judge myself to death and it’s a good place to be. :)

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:21 pm

isn’t it??? It is so freeing right?!??

Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome January 14, 2014 at 12:14 am

Love it! I agree, we all do it, the comparison that is, but what a waste of time right!?!

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Oh yes… waste of time and energy!

Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate January 14, 2014 at 2:44 am

This is so, so important to remember. I feel like so many of us spend way too much time comparing ourselves to others and forgetting to look at the bigger picture, which is that everyone is special and amazing in their own way. :-)

Brittany January 19, 2014 at 3:25 pm

well said Gina!! We are all amazing in our own way!

lindsay January 14, 2014 at 7:25 am

well said friend. Easy to say, harder to do. Well, for most. But words of encouragement, like yours, are often needed. <3
