WIAW #37 Lot’s of Dal

by Brittany on February 13, 2013

I’m so glad you all enjoyed my post yesterday on meal planning.

I will certainly do a shopping on a budget post soon.  Meal planning goes perfectly with What I Ate Wednesdays… don’t ya think?

Head on over to Jenn’s for more What I Ate Wednesday.  I love looking at everyone’s food for inspiration.

This month we are eating more veggies!  I think I did pretty darn well today.

Breakfast:

Scrambled eggs with coconut oil and cinnamon. #strangebutgood Plus, what was left of my apple and banana.  I tend to eat while cooking my eggs.  no veggies here… I forgot my spinach!!

Lunch:

Leftover Lentil Dal with Avocado.  Lots of veggies here: mushrooms, spinach, and artichoke hearts.

Snack:

A handful of almonds on the way home.

Dinner:

Angela’s Broccoli Dal Tons of broccoli for my veggie here.  Plus, we had a small salad before dinner of spinach, apples, and pears.

Luvy was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, so all the soups/ dal really helped him.  We have to get rid of this cold by tomorrow!

Snack:

Coconut microwave muffin topped with coconut butter, sunflower butter, hemp seeds, and banana.

I think I finally perfected my muffin. Just in time for Valentine’s Day!

I have noticed that I have been more hungry these past few weeks since starting Best Body Bootcamp with Tina.  I keep everything low impact, but I think the heavy lifting is increasing my metabolism.  I am loving her weight sets though.  I just eat when I’m hungry, and eat larger portions at meal times… or go back for more!  :)

Have you been getting your veggies in?

What is your remedy to getting rid of a head cold?

Does lifting weights make you more hungry??

Oh man, I swear I’ve been so much hungrier lately, especially come evening. I’m consistent with my meals and snacks throughout the day, but then dinner is just not doing it for me. Not sure if that’s the time my workouts and metabolism are catching up with me or if my dinner’s aren’t good enough to keep me full. might be time to do some research! ;)

My best remedy for a cold is a hot shower, hot tea, and a shot of amazing grass. I swear I am not getting paid by the company to promote them lol, but it really works for me and helped to boot my immune system after I got mono twice in college!

I have got to find some amazing grass then!

Ugh, I have a head cold too! I picked it up over the weekend. Perfectly fine with me, I was stuck inside with the blizzard anyway. I noticed that emergen-c definitely made a difference in the severity of my symptoms. 2 days later, I felt much better. Now it’s all coming down from my head and into my throat. Yuckk

I hate when it goes to the throat!!

I love adding cinnamon to my eggs- it’s like french toast batter :P I’ve been eating more cooked veggies versus raw because it’s easier on my digestive system, but am totally loving cooked carrots and peas- my parents said that when I was a baby I could eat whole bags of them and be perfectly content!

Yes it is like french toast!! Never thought of that!

I’ve been getting more veggies in – my late night snack last night was tomatoes with vinegar, salt, and pepper – an old favorite. And that Lentil Dal looks yummy!

I love having a muffin as a snack. They are the perfect thing before bed in my opinion.
Hah, I love that you love that dal so much, I really need to try it! Especially since I was just sick, then it sadly returned! Ugh, so not impressed by this! It’s lasted forever.

My sickness really lasted forever too! I hope you are 100% now. You would love dal!

Lifting weights always make me more hungry than heavy cardio which I find very interesting. It takes a bit to get there but once the weight and the reps increase I really start to notice it.

Brittany February 20, 2013 at 8:59 pm

Yes! I’m noticing this too!

Ack! Hope that Luvy feels better soon! My remedy for colds tends to be lots of water, vitamin C, and rest. And I have to admit that I haven’t been the best at getting my veggies in lately. I blame it on the cold weather and fact that my stomach doesn’t tolerate veggies in the biggest doses all that well.

Brittany February 20, 2013 at 9:00 pm

my tummy doesn’t like raw veggies too well. Have you tried more cooked ones?

Amanda @ .running with spoons. February 20, 2013 at 10:31 pm

I have… and my stomach seems to do better with those, but it still fusses if I eat too many :?

What does Dal mean?

I’ve always used zicam lozenges whenever I feel a cold coming on and they seem to help! I get the Target brand of homeopathic ones!

Brittany February 20, 2013 at 9:01 pm

dal usually means lentils. it is an term used mostly in indian food (like from india). Want me to make you some?? ;)

I really need to get more veggies in… I was just talking to my sweet man last night about that. I get my fruit in, but the veggies, not so much. This morning I am going to make an omelet with tons of spinach!
Great eats!!
