Before I was a mom, it was really easy for me to get busy in life and just be in my own little bubble.
I’m not saying I was oblivious to others, I’m just saying it was easy for me to be concerned with what was going on around me and to let time pass when it came to keeping up with those who don’t live close to me.
After Baby D came along, I realized how precious those relationships are. I realized how much I wanted Baby D to know and love those that I love so much even though they are far away.
A few weeks ago, I got an invitation to my sweet, dear friend Shelley’s baby shower.
Shelley and I in college. (around 2004-05??)
Shelley and I met our freshman year of college. We have both been through major life events together, from losing people very close to us, getting married, and all that comes with being a “grown up”. Now, Shelley is about to welcome her first baby boy into the world!
No matter how far, I knew I wanted to be there for her. I want Baby D to know her and her sweet boy.
They shower was so fun, and Baby D got lots of loving. I felt like I should have paid for all the free childcare! 🙂
Plus, going to Tennessee meant seeing grandparents…. even if it was for 12 hours at each spot!
(Baby D gets no attention…. as you can tell)
Baby D even got to meet my fur baby for the first time. Before Zoe (my cat) would totally snub us. I was afraid she might be mean to the baby, but she was so sweet and patient.
On the way home, we even got to see my friend Abby during Baby D’s 1st dinner time. 🙂 It’s nice to have friends and family live all over the country…
Over the past few months, things have shifted in me.
It’s all about priorities. I am learning that sometimes “life” needs to get put on hold for those you care about. I mean sure, I had plenty of things “to do” this weekend.
Clean floors, a stocked kitchen, and errands run will never equal memories made. Time spent with friends and family will never be regretted. I know at the end of life none of us will look back and wish we had mopped our floors more.
We will have the memories we made with those we love.
Hope you all have a wonderful Monday… now go make some memories!
Do you need to shift your priorities?
I challenge you to call or go visit an old friend or relative and tell them how much you care about them today!
