New Year, New Rules Final Thoughts Vlog

by Brittany on January 25, 2013

Hey friends!

Sorry I’m late today!  I had a chiropractic appointment this morning.  Last night, we got a bit of “winter weather” if you can call it that, and so I had to leave my house extra early to get there.  Everyone forgets how to drive when there are flurries.

We don’t get much winter weather here… if ya couldn’t tell.  :)

I have a vlog for you all today coming from Luvy’s office!!

Today I’m sharing my experiences with New Year, New Rules.

In short, I loved the program!

It was hard giving up sugar.  I never realized how much stuff sugar was in.  Including my beloved Trader Joe’s sunflower butter!!

Going forward, I want to be more mindful of the amount of sugar I take in.

I was a lot less shaky when I gave up refined sugars… and my craving went away!!  (I forgot to mention that in the vlog!)

If you all want to do Round 2 of New Year, New Rules, they are offering a special 20% off to my readers!  Use the code NYNR20 when you sign up here.

What are you up to this weekend?

Do you all have a hard time giving up sugar?

Nice job on making it through the challenge. Giving up sugar is quite a challenge so you should be really proud for making it through! Cereal is my weakness too!

This vlog made me so happy! Sugar is my arch-nemesis and I feel like I’m in this constant battle to keep my sugar cravings at bay, mostly because I eat at least a bit more of it than I used to and the more I have, the more I want. I’m working to control my sugar intake which I know will help reduce my cravings but also make my body feel better. It’s a work in progress that’s for sure!

1. You are the cutest. Sarah is going to give you hugs from me :)

2. I was also shocked when I did a “no sugar” challenge, by how many foods you wouldn’t expect to have sugar to have it: jars of marinara sauce, or canned beans for instance. I remember being shocked by those two and countless more, such as my beloved turkey jerky! It really is incredible how the cravings stop though after a while. Its just before the craving stop when its hard and my husband says I’m not fun to be around :)

It is crazy what all it is in!! I want to keep sugar out of my diet as much as possible, but I’m eating up my stash first… lol I am so sad that there is sugar in TJ’s sunflower butter!

This weekend is a little weird for me, since I’m in Austin through tomorrow early evening for a work event (and meeting Lindsay!) and then getting home late. Sunday will start with a 10K and then we have a 3 hour bike to fit in. Crazy!

I would fall over if I did a 10k and a 3hr bike ride. I could drive along side of you and cheer you on! :)

Oh my goll, this makes me SO excited to come see you in person…20 days?!?!

I haven’t ever done a true sugar elimination diet, but it–like salt–truly is hidden in EVERYTHING. I think cereals and yogurts–and yes, my Nutty Butter–woud be the hardest thing to give up. I don’t have a lot of sugar cravings, in general, though, so I think perhaps my processed sugar intake might actually be pretty low overall. [Or I'm just lucky?] I mostly eat natural sugars or stevia, which is sounds like was allowed.

Squee! I can’t even tell you how much I love watching your vlogs! You’re just too adorable :D My body isn’t super sensitive to sugar so I never really bothered trying to eliminate it… but most of the sugar I eat tends to come from fruit anyways. Aside from the things I bake and some of my cereals, I don’t take in a lot of processed sugar, so I guess I’m doing okay :)

Congrats on making it all the way! I’ve been off sugar (and grains, starches, caffeine, and dairy) for a week now and the first 3 days were rough but I’m not craving sugar at all. It’s amazing how it goes away when you don’t have it!

Brittany February 1, 2013 at 5:43 pm

You are a rock star for being off all that! I should cut down my starches… but I’m a carboholic. lol

Just watched the vlog, you are just the cutest! I’m glad you really enjoyed this challenge and are more mindful of your sugar consumption! I definitely think it’s important to know! I don’t take in too much sugar, so I’m not too worried but I do have hypoglycemia so I’m mindful of my intake, otherwise I’ll end up in a shaky mess on the floor haha. Love you!

Brittany February 1, 2013 at 5:44 pm

Thanks love! I shake too! I have never been tested for hypoglycemia though. Since I cut out processed sugars, my shakiness has gone away!

Loved the vlog in the office. That totally cracked me up. You know there is only one store I can find sunbutter without the sugar? It is a pain in the rear. I have never had it with sugar, but it taste fine to me without.

I wish I could find it without sugar!!! Ugh.. I have looked everywhere!!

You are super adorable! I’m happy to hear you had a good experience with this program. I removed added sugar from my diet a few years ago. It makes me feel better to avoid it. :)
