I’m so excited about sharing more of our adoption story with you all.
Some of it I can not share, which I’m sure you all can understand, but I will share as much as I can!
Since it is adoption month, I thought one day each week I would share more about our story and answer an questions you all might have.
I had several people ask last week for more details on where we are adoption from, what age, and things like that.
When we started discussing adoption, we both agreed that we wanted to adopt an infant. We both really wanted to have that experience as parents.
(Us with our niece on our wedding day)
The only way to get a newborn is to adopt domestically here in the US.
I had always heard horror stories from people about how the birth parent(s) come back years later and take the children back, so I was very hesitant at first.
Thankfully, we had an amazing adoption worker that explained the legal processes and that isn’t the case… at least not anymore.
There is a window where the birthparent(s) can change their mind, but after the adoption is finalized… it is a done deal!
I’m sure I will be holding my breath until our adoption finalizes!
As far as specifications go, we don’t have a preference between a boy or a girl. We figure that if we had gotten pregnant with a biological child, we wouldn’t have been able to choose anyway!
Also, we are completely open to any race.
This really makes it easy for our agency to match us, or at least that is what they tell us.
The more restrictions or more preferences you have, the longer your wait time usually is and the harder it is to match.
Good thing we don’t have many preferences! 🙂
Right now in the process, we are just waiting. That is the part I’m the worst at. We are just waiting to be matched with a birthmother.
Don’t worry… once that happens I’ll be too excited to keep it a secret!
What other questions do you all have about adoption? Nothing is too personal around here!
Have you ever considered adoption?
