Happy Halloween y’all!
Are any of you dressing up for Halloween?
Wait… did I really say that I have candy waiting for them?
Yep! I think it is a rite of passage to trick-or-treat on Halloween. I also believe that you can trick or treat and still be healthy.
6 Tips for a Healthy Halloween
1. Drink lots of water.
Drinking water keeps you from snacking when you aren’t really hungry.
2. Allow yourself to indulge.
If you restrict and tell yourself you can’t have any sweets, you may end up binging or you just miss out on all the fun altogether. Neither are a good option. If you allow yourself 2 or 3 sweet bites, you will satisfy that sweet tooth.
3. Focus on your friends, family, or children.
It is all about having fun and enjoying yourself. Make it about the children whether you are out with kiddos or handing out candy. When we put the focus away from ourselves, we don’t focus on what we are or are not eating.
4. Stay active.
Walk the kids around trick-or-treating. Or if you are having a Halloween party, walk around and stay social with friends. Don’t just sit around and munch. Also, I find that when I workout and hit the gym, I always make better choices throughout the day.
5. Keep healthy snacks around.
Have grapes, apple slices, and other healthy munchies around so you are getting a good mix of sweets and healthy options. That way you always have an alternative to the sweet if you so prefer.
6. Don’t stress out…. Have fun!
Allow yourself to live a little! Halloween isn’t going to make or break you. So what if you over indulge a little bit one night?? One night doesn’t make or break you. Healthy living is a result of lifestyle, not one night’s choices. Enjoy yourself and go back to eating your greens tomorrow.
Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
